Dr. Deborah Koehn

Retired Internal Medicine Physician | Culinary Medicine Advocate | Volunteer with Sisters Project Peru

Throughout my career as an Internal Medicine physician, I have always believed that food and nutrition are fundamental to health. From leading complex lipid clinics and diabetes programs centered on lifestyle interventions to teaching fourth-year medical students the principles of culinary medicine, my clinical practice focused on treating the whole person.

Service and community-building have been lifelong passions of mine—whether establishing Alternative Spring Break at the University of Virginia, serving as Development Director for AIDS/HIV Services Group, or founding Charlottesville’s first AIDSWalk.

In my next chapter, I am proud to dedicate my energy and expertise to Sisters Project Peru. I am deeply drawn to their vital work building a rural health clinic for indigenous populations and fighting nutritional deficiencies through sustainable greenhouse programs. I welcome connections with fellow advocates, healthcare professionals, and organizations passionate about global health equity, nutrition, and sustainable community development.
