Huacahuasi, peru volunteer trip
The Need
Nestled high in the Peruvian Andes, the community of Huacahuasi faces significant barriers to healthcare. Families often travel several hours on foot to reach the nearest medical services, making routine checkups, emergency care, and preventive treatment difficult to access. This limited access contributes to preventable health challenges, including childhood anemia, inadequate dental care, and delayed treatment for illness and injury.
OUR WORK
Sisters Project Peru partners directly with the people of Huacahuasi to support lasting improvements in community health. Rather than providing short-term aid, we work alongside local leaders, healthcare professionals, and families to advance projects that are driven by the community itself.
Our initiatives include supporting the development of a community health clinic, promoting health education on topics such as nutrition and anemia prevention, expanding access to dental hygiene resources, and empowering local women through economic opportunities. Every project is built on long-term relationships, cultural respect, and the belief that sustainable change begins with local leadership.
Trip Mission
Our annual summer volunteer trip is an opportunity to deepen these partnerships while learning from the people of Huacahuasi. Volunteers engage in educational workshops, community activities, and cultural exchange while witnessing firsthand the impact of ongoing projects.
Participants support the organization's long-term mission by building relationships, assisting with community-led initiatives, and gaining a deeper understanding of the challenges and strengths of rural Andean communities. Every visit strengthens our commitment to creating sustainable, locally led change that continues long after the trip ends.
