Health as Economic Dignity: Artisan Market
What’s next?
Our Artisan Market still has a number of handmade items available for purchase. Check out our marketplace to see the complete list, and watch out for more items that may become available after our return to Huacahuasi this August!
Overview
As part of Sisters Project Peru’s multidimensional approach to bolstering healthcare access, we launched the SPP Artisan Market, an online marketplace selling handcrafted weavings produced by the women of Huacahuasi.
All products were purchased directly, at full price, from the women themselves and included items such as ponchos, scarves, and blankets. Check out some of the community members’ incredible items in our Marketplace!
Purpose behind the project
During our 2021 survey of the Huacahuasi community, many women revealed that their barriers to healthcare access were not solely connected to infrastructure. Women voiced challenges relating to financial independence and reliable access to funds for healthcare needs (you can read more about gendered dimensions of healthcare access HERE). The goal of SPP’s Holiday Market was to directly support the women artisans of Huacahuasi, empowering them economically while preserving their cultural heritage. The initiative also seeks to continue gathering funds for constructing the medical clinic in the village, the primary goal of Sisters Project Peru.
